VARADERO, Cuba, May 8, 2022 – Cubans Leila
Martinez and Lidy Echeverría were crowned at
home as queens of the women's segment of the
Varadero Beach Volleyball Tournament, the second
stop of the NORCECA Circuit this Sunday.
Martínez and Echeverría prevailed against
Canadians Emma Glagau and Ruby Sorra 2-1 (21-12,
19-21, 15-12) in a close duel in 48 minutes.
The Cubans had finished second at the first stop
in Aguascalientes when they lost in the final to
Canadians Brandie Wilkeron and Sophie Bukovec.
In the semifinal phase, Martínez/Echeverría
defeated the Americans Iya Lindhal and Alexandra
Wheeler 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) and Glagau/Sorra beat
the Guatemalans Natalia Girón and Laura Quiñones
2-0 (21-9, 21-15).
Lindhal/Wheeler won the third place on the
podium after defeating Giron/Quiñones 2-0
(21-14, 21-19).
