Even LVSF Semifinal B Series
PONCE, Puerto Rico, April 12, 2026. – The Leonas de Ponce
successfully defended their home court at Auditorio Pachín Vicéns to
level the Semifinal B series of the Women’s Superior Volleyball
League (LVSF) at one win apiece, avenging their Game 1 loss to the
Criollas de Caguas with a four-set victory 19-25, 25-15, 25-22 and
25-22.
Ponce came out strong, taking the first technical timeout 8-3 with a
kill by Sherridan Atkinson from zone two and holding a 2-1 lead in
sets. However, Caguas gradually cut into the deficit.
The
Leonas led the second technical timeout 16-12 with another kill from
Atkinson from zone two. The Criollas responded with a dink by
Genesis Collazo from position four to close the gap to 17-18, but
Ponce withstood the push and pulled away again to 22-18 thanks to
attacks from Nataly García on the outside and a middle kill by Abby
Akey.
Ponce reached set point at 24-20 with another Akey finish through
the middle and closed the set 25-22 with a kill by Atkinson over the
Caguas block.
As a
team, the Leonas outperformed the Criollas 63-46 in attacks, 13-12
in blocks, 8-3 in service aces, 70-59 in digs, 54-35 in receptions,
and 23-9 in assists.
Ponce’s offense was led by Sherridan Atkinson with 26 points (23
kills and 3 blocks), followed by Claire Chaussee with 20, Abby Akey
with 12, and Nataly García with 10.
For
Caguas, Jenaisya Moore led with 18 points, while Genesis Collazo
added 10.
The
series continues Tuesday at Coliseo Roger Mendoza Vidal, where the
Criollas de Caguas will host the Leonas at 8:20 p.m.
The
semifinals are played in a best-of-seven format; the first team to
reach four wins advances to the Final Series. |
