León Welcomes Back the Women’s Pan American Cup
LEÓN, Guanajuato, Mexico, September 7, 2026. – The Women’s Pan
American Cup returns to León, Guanajuato, for its twenty-third
edition, bringing together ten teams from September 11-18 at the
Domo de la Feria.
León welcomes the Women’s Pan American Cup for the second time,
after hosting the event in 2024, and continues its role as a
host of international volleyball competitions, having also
staged the NORCECA Men’s Final Four this past June.
Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico,
Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, United States and Venezuela will compete
in this year’s edition.
In addition to competing for the Women’s Pan American Cup title,
the tournament provides FIVB World Ranking points for NORCECA
teams that do not participate in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL).
The event also forms part of the qualification pathway toward
the Lima 2027 Pan American Games, although it does not directly
qualify teams for the Games.
The teams are divided into two pools of five. Pool A consists of
Canada, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and
Venezuela, while Pool B features Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala,
host Mexico and the United States. The preliminary round will be
played from September 11-15 under a round-robin format.
The first-place team in each pool will advance directly to the
semifinals, while the teams finishing second and third will move
on to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals and classification
matches will be played on September 16, followed by the
semifinals on September 17 and the final round on September 18.
The Dominican Republic enters the tournament as defending
champion after capturing the 2025 title. The Dominicans lead the
all-time medal count with 19 medals, including six gold, ten
silver and three bronze medals.
The United States holds the record for the most Women’s Pan
American Cup titles with seven, followed by the Dominican
Republic with six, Cuba with four, Brazil with three and
Argentina with two.
Competition gets underway on Friday, September 11, with Puerto
Rico facing Venezuela at 2:00 p.m., followed by Dominican
Republic against Nicaragua at 4:00 p.m. Pool B action begins
with United States against Cuba at 6:00 p.m., while host Mexico
closes the opening day against Costa Rica at 8:00 p.m.
