2027 Pan American Games Have A New Date
LIMA, Peru, January 30, 2026.- Following a decision by the Panam
Sports Executive Committee, agreed upon with the Local Organizing
Committee, the new dates for the XX Pan American Games Lima 2027
will be from July 23 to August 8, one week later than originally
scheduled for the start of the continental sporting celebration.
A
delegation from Panam Sports, led by its president Neven Ilic,
traveled to the Peruvian capital for a series of meetings,
activities, and visits to sports venues to assess progress and
oversee the work of the Local Organizing Committee for the XX Pan
American Games Lima 2027.
After this first operational meeting between Peruvian sports
authorities and Panam Sports, and due to the crowded international
sports calendar in 2027, the Executive Committee of the Pan American
Sports Organization decided to shift the dates of the Games by one
week from those originally established (July 16 to August 1).
The
new dates for the Pan American Games will run from Friday, July 23,
with the Opening Ceremony, through Sunday, August 8, when the
Closing Ceremony of the continent’s premier multi-sport event will
take place.
Positive assessment from President Ilic
The
four-day visit by Panam Sports to Lima included several meetings
with the Local Organizing Committee, as well as visits to the Pan
American Village, the National Sports Village (VIDENA), and the
Villa María del Triunfo Sports Complex.
“We
are very happy and reassured after this visit. We were able to see
firsthand how fantastic the sports venues and the Pan American
Village are. The legacy of the 2019 Games has been spectacular. The
sports facilities are very well maintained and, most importantly,
they have continued to host sporting events,” said Panam Sports
President Neven Ilic.
“We
see a team led by Local Organizing Committee President Sergio Ludeña,
with great commitment and passion. I have no doubt that Lima 2027
will be great and historic Games. Our goal is to improve upon
everything that made the 2019 celebration so incredible,” Ilic
added.
Following the tour of the sports venues, Panam Sports President
Neven Ilic visited the Government Palace in Lima to meet with the
Constitutional President of the Republic of Peru, José Jerí.
“President Jerí has expressed his full support and the commitment of
the Government of Peru to the Pan American Games, which makes us
very optimistic. While the infrastructure is ready, there is still
much work to be done in terms of operations and logistics, so we
must not relax and must work very closely together for what is the
most important sporting celebration on the continent,” Neven Ilic
concluded.
The
XX Pan American Games Lima 2027 will bring together more than 7,000
athletes from 41 countries and will be the most important Olympic
qualifying event on the road to Los Angeles 2028. |
