Lima will be the Host City of the 2027 Pan American Games
MIAMI, United States, March 12, 2024 .- In a close vote at the
Extraordinary General Assembly, the Peruvian capital was chosen by the
member countries of Panam Sports with 28 votes in favor, as the city
that will host the continental event.
“We are happy for this triumph. We will work to make everyone's
experience the best they have had, and you have the absolute devotion of
more than 33 million Peruvians. Thank you for trusting us”, said the
President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari.
After two intense months of candidacy, today the city that will organize
the next Pan American Games 2027 was finally chosen.
At 9:00 am (ET), the Extraordinary General Assembly of Panam Sports
began, which featured the official presentations of the candidate cities
Lima and Asunción from Miami, United States.
Both cities had a 40-minute presentation led by the Presidents of the
Olympic Committees of Peru and Paraguay, Renzo Manyari and Camilo Pérez
respectively. They showed videos, messages from their main authorities,
and then submitted questions from participating member countries.
After that, the virtual voting took place, a process that was handled by
the British company Lumi. After a few minutes, the President of the
Legal Commission of Panam Sports, Michael Chambers, handed the envelope
of the winning city to the highest authority of the continental
organization.
“The city that will host the next Pan American Games 2027 with 28 votes
in favor is... Lima, Peru”, said the President of Panam Sports, Neven
Ilic.
Joy erupted among the representatives of Lima and throughout Peru. After
organizing the XVIII Pan American Games in 2019 in a great way, the most
important multi-sport event of the continent returns to Peruvian lands
in 2027.
“I want to highlight the transparency of the process and the brotherhood
of both nations that competed healthily for the right to host the 2027
Pan American Games. I want to congratulate Lima, the Peruvian Olympic
Committee, and its president Renzo Manyari, and all of Peru for this
tremendous achievement. A few years ago, they made an entire continent
vibrate and today, with more experience and spectacular infrastructure,
they want to repeat or improve the success achieved in 2019”, said the
President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic.
“I also take this opportunity to congratulate Paraguay and President
Camilo Pérez. They are doing a great job with Paraguayan sports and
their athletes, so my call is for them to continue growing and
developing. They have a tremendous challenge ahead with the Pan American
Junior Games in 2025, where I am sure they will be great hosts for the
entire continent”, added Ilic.
For his part, the President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee was
emphatic in stating that “We are happy for this triumph. We will work to
make everyone's experience the best they have had, and you have the
absolute devotion of more than 33 million Peruvians. Thank you for
trusting us. Thanks also to President Dina Boluarte and her unwavering
support for this candidacy.
Together We Win!”
