SAN JUAN DEL SUR, Nicaragua, March 29, 2016 – Elia
Machado and Lolette Rodriguez and Gerson Contreras and Denis
Lopez were crowned women’s and men’s champions, respectively, of
the Nicaragua Beach Volleyball National Tour that concluded on
Sunday.
Machado/Rodriguez finished the competition undefeated while
losing just one set in Sunday’s finale to Claudia Machado and
Socorro López. They claimed their third consecutive title by
winning 2-1 (21-13, 15-21, 15-4).
The champions arrived into the finals following a 2-0 (21-10,
21-16) victory over siblings Heidy and Mercedes Traña while
Machado/López had to sweat to overcome Fernanda Chamorro and
Anielka Alonso 2-0 (21-19, 22-20).
Chamorro/Alonso took the bronze medal by defeating the Traña
sisters 2-0 (21-14, 21-15).
Contreras and Lopez, who had finished second in 2015, took one
further step this time by defeating Rubén Mora and Dany Lopez
2-0 (24-22, 21-0) when Mora couldn’t continue playing after a
leg injury.
In the semifinals, Contreras/Lopez defeated Winston Castro and
Francisco Calderon 2-0 (23-21, 21-14) and Mora/Lopez beat Miguel
Lopez and Jefferson Cascante 2-0 (21-13, 21-15).
Lopez/Cascante won the men’s bronze medal with a 2-1 (17-21,
21-12, 15-13) triumph over Castro/Calderon. |
