Madeline Guillen leads all scorers of U18
ROSARIO, Argentina, August 28, 2017 – Dominican Madeline Guillen,
who amassed 155 points for the tournament, was the top scorer of
the FIVB U18 Girls’ World Championship won by Italy with
Dominican Republic and Russia in second and third place,
respectively.
Guillen outdistanced Turkey’s Ebrar Karakurt and Japan’s Haruna
Soga who finished with 139 and 138 points, respectively.
Guillen and Karakurt were awarded as Outside Hitters and
Russia’s Victoriia Pushina was one of the Middle Blockers
Another Dominican, Yaneirys Rodriguez was included in the
All-Star of the tournament as Libero.
Italy, who retained the title won two years ago in Peru, took
home a lion’s share in the award ceremony as Elena Pietrini led
a parade of four members of the squad in the ideal team as Most
Valuable Player.
Rachelle Morello and Terry Enweonwu were included as Setter and
Opposite and Sarah Luisa the other Middle Blocker.
Italy claimed the gold medal after a 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-12,
25-20) victory over the Dominican Republic while Russia defeated
Turkey 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 16-25, 25-15) for the bronze medal.
United States, Mexico and Cuba were the other NORCECA teams that
participated in the competition. USA concluded in eighth
position, Mexico and Cuba finished in 18th and 20th positions,
respectively. |
