Mancuso and Tellez lead Ponce to victory

PONCE, Puerto Rico, January 12, 2017 – American Gina Mancuso recorded 20 points and Cuban Dulce Tellez added 17 as Ponce Lionesses outplayed the Dominican Republic women’s national team 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 19-17) to even up at 1-1 the volleyball friendly series between the two teams.

Janeliss Torres and Taylor Simpson contributed 11 and 8 points, respectively, in the victory.

Gina Mambru had 17 points to lead five Dominicans who finished the match with double digits in the scoring charts. Yonkaira Peña and Annerys Vargas each registered 12 points, while Jineiry Martinez and Erasma Moreno had 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

Ponce outscored Dominican Republic in serving aces (8-7) and blocks (14-10).

The series continues on Friday with the third match at Salvador Dijols Pavilion in Ponce.
