Canadian duos with two victories
SEVEN MILES BEACH, Grand Cayman, March 23, 2012 – Canadadian
Samuel Schachter and Maverick Hatch of CAN-1 and Josh Binstock
with Martin Reader of CAN-2 triumphed in their two matches
during the opening day at Cayman Islands, the first stop of the
2012 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.
Schachter and Maverick of CAN-1, playing in Pool C, easily
defeated their two opponents. They first won by a score of 2-0
(21-4, 21-10) over locals Andrew Gordon and Olney Thompson of
Cayman-2 and then by 2-0 (21-9, 21-12) against Collin Thomas and
Angus Gittens of Antigua.
In Pool D, the victories for Josh Binstock and Martin Reader of
CAN-2 were over Americans James Drost and Steven Vanderwerp in
a well fought three-set match (20-22, 21-16, 15-12 and 2-0
(21-16, 21-13)over Guatemala’s Andy Leonardo and Erick Garrido.
Also undefeated were Puerto Rico’s Roberto Rodriguez and Eric
Haddock in Pool A and El Salvador’s Luis Morales and Ovidio
Quintanilla in Pool B. Puerto Rico dominated Cayman Island’s
teams over Shervin Rankin and Richard Campbell CAY-1 (21-15,
21-17) and (21-18 , 21-16 ) against Philippe Deslandes and
Duncan Haymann of CAY-3.
Morales/Quintanilla edged Sean Seabrookes and St. Clair Hodge of
SKN by 2-1 (23-25, 21-18, 15-13) and followed with 2-0 (21-6,
21-19) victory over newcomers Christophe Covini and Alain
Pensiot of French Saint Martin.
Pool play will be completed on Saturday morning with the top two
teams of each pool advancing to a single-elimination main
bracket.
