Mexican women teams to semifinals at Cayman Islands

SEVEN MILES BEACH, Grand Cayman, March 24, 2012. – The two Mexico’s teams reached the semifinal round of the first stop of the NORCECA 2012 Beach Volleyball Circuit at Cayman Island’s Seven Miles Beach.

Both duos faced each other in the quarterfinals where Bibiana Candelas and Mayra Garcia (MEX-2) downed Martha Revuelta and Vanessa Virgen (MEX-1) 2-0 (21-17, 21-13). Earlier, Candelas/Garcia defeated Jamie Broder and Victoria Altomare of CAN-2 by 2-0 (21-18, 21-16) while Revuelta/Virgen did the same against Diana Romero and Marcela Avalos of ESA by 2-0 (21-9, 21-11).

Revuelta/Virgen were forced to play an extra match to Michelle Moriarty and Traci Weamer USA-2 and showed their great talent winning by 2-0 (21-19, 23-21).

The other semifinalists are Jennifer Snyder and Heather Hughes USA-1 who edged Puerto Rico’s Yarleen Santiago and Yamileska Yantin to three sets 21-15, 11-21 and 15-13, who then joined the winners by defeating Jamie Broder and Victoria Altomare of CAN-2 in a thriller match by 2-0 (21-17, 25-23).

Semifinals will be held on Sunday morning between Mexico-1 v. Puerto Rico and Mexico-2 v. USA-1; winners play for the first place and losers for the third place.
