Marte Hoffiz optimistic about the battle against COVID-19
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 29, 2020 – The
president of NORCECA made a dramatic call for optimism and
confidence amid the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease that
strikes the world with its aftermath of grief and deaths.
Cristobal Marte Hoffiz expressed his feelings during a virtual
meeting held on Wednesday afternoon with the representatives of
the national federations grouped in the CAZOVA area led by their
president Mushtaque Mohammed, from Trinidad and Tobago.
"We are going through a very painful period for humanity, but
this is not the end of the world as we will continue to fight
this pandemic and shall emerge from this battle stronger than
ever," Marte Hoffiz expressed to open and close the 90
minute-meeting.
“The world has gone through very difficult times before and the
human race has been able to overcome them and I am sure we are
going to win the battle against the virus sooner than later,” he
added.
The president of NORCECA remarked that several events of beach
volleyball and volleyball have been already postponed or
cancelled but he is confident the action on the sand and in the
halls will be back before the year is over.
“At this time we only think about protecting our athletes,
referees, members of the control committees and fans who cannot
be put at risk. I am confident that the days will soon return to
enjoy feats and achievements,” he said.
Marte Hoffiz explained how the circumstances has forced NORCECA
to reduce its personnel for the time being but made it clear the
institution will continue working with limited human resources
to offer information and services.
He said that the Elective NORCECA Congress scheduled to take
place next June will necessarily have to be postponed and held
virtually due to travel restrictions. For this, amendments to
the constitution will have to be made and he is currently
awaiting the recommendations of the legal commission.
