Marte Hoffiz to preside Dominican
Hall of Fame induction ceremony
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October 18,
2014 – FIVB First Executive Vice President Cristobal Marte
Hoffiz will preside over the Dominican Republic Sport Hall of
Fame induction ceremony to take place on Sunday in Santo
Domingo.
Marte Hoffiz, who is also the North, Central
American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA)
President, was selected to chair the event in recognition of his
long career as promoter of development of women’s volleyball in
the country.
“We have selected Mr. Marte Hoffiz to preside the
ceremony because he has been an extraordinary hard worker to
develop women’s volleyball in our country,” President of the
Sport Hall of Fame Permanent Committee, Dr. Luis Scheker Ortiz
said.
“We also considered some other candidates of
merits but the name of Marte Hoffiz stood out among all of
them.” Scheker added. “He has been a credit for our sport and a
well deserving person to preside the induction of our 2014
class.”
The ceremony will be dedicated to the Dominican
Republic Women’s Volleyball Team that finished in fifth place at
recently concluded FIVB World Championship in Italy and also to
pitcher Bartolo Colón, who this summer reached the 200-win
plateau in his Baseball Major League career.
The inductees’ class of 2014 includes Major
League Baseball stars such as outfielder Moises Alou and pitcher
Ramon Martinez, and basketball players Alejandro Tejeda and
Teresa Duran. Also Dr. Jose Joaquin Puello, Ad Vitam President
of the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee and softball player
Josue Polanco and judoka Andrea Hernandez. |
