RIMINI, Italy, June 14, 2021 -
Sisters Brayelin and Jineiry Martínez
contributed 19 and 15 points, respectively, to
lead the Dominican Republic to a 3-1 win over
the Netherlands in the FIVB Volleyball Women's
Nations League on Monday.
In a close match from start to
finish, those led by Marcos Kwiek prevailed by
scores of 25-23, 23-25, 30-28, 25-22 and thus
put their win-loss record at 7-5.
It is the second consecutive
victory for the Dominicans over the Netherlands
after having lost in the first 12
confrontations.
Bethania de la Cruz contributed
12 points, while Yonkaira Peña and Lisvel Eve
contributed 8 and 7 to the victory.
Mika Daalderop was the highest
scorer of the match with 23 points for the
Netherlands, followed by Anne Buijs with 16.
Celeste Plak and Juliet Lohuis finished with 11
points each.
The Dominicans took advantage of
34 unforced errors by the Dutch while committing
23. In the other scoring statistics, the losers
led in attacks (64-61) and winners (5-2). Both
teams scored with 6 blocks.
After a 1-2 start in the first
round of the tournament that brings together the
16 best teams in the world, the Dominicans
finished with a 2-1 record in the next three.
The Dominican Republic team
returns to court on Friday 18th to play against
Japan and ends up facing Serbia and Germany on
the 19th and 20th. |
