Martinique overcame start from the Host!

 

PARAMARIBO, Suriname, April 1, 2018 - The battle of the French (Martinique) and Dutch (Suriname) territories excited the Ismay Van Wilgan Sporthal for the second match of the 11th CAZOVA U21 Men Championship in Paramaribo, Suriname on Saturday 31st March 2018.  

 

Martinique overcame a very strong start from the Suriname backed by its home crowd to prevail 3–1 (21-25, 27-25, 25-21 and 25-23).

 

Martinique had slightly more winners 98 to Suriname’s 94, Barbados also committed slightly less errors 50 to Suriname’s 56.

 

Lohan Leaivre was Martinique’s top scorer with 8 points (6 Spikes and 2 Block) but the Suriname’s Anferney Schmeltz was the game highest scorer with 15 points (14 Spikes and 1 Ace).

 

COACH MARTINIQUE – Theodore Verdan said “We did not know Suriname as well as Suriname did not know us, so there was no specific plan, we just adjusting according the game, and it work.”

 

CAPTAIN MARTINIQUE- Jimmy Mondesir said “team spirit brought us so far to gain the victory”

 

ASS. COACH SURINAME – Casey Foe-a-man said “Martinique went on to play better during the game and we stayed at one level. We won the first set easy and my players thought that they would win the game, but it was too late when we realized and stepped up.”

 

CAPTAIN SURINAME – Dylan Hiwat said “we played good till the second set but then we lost focus. We will come back stronger and will not lose the focus anymore.”
