SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 4,
2021 – The match won by Dominican Republic over
Puerto Rico in opening day of the Men’s Pan
American Cup made the record book in the history
of the competition.
All the four sets of the 3-1 (31-29, 31-33,
27-25, 27-25) triumph of the Dominican squad in
2:40 hours required to play beyond the normal 25
points to claim the victory.
Scrolling down all the scores in the history of
the competition, the closest contest to that
long battle was a quarterfinal 3-1 victory of
Canada over United States in the edition of 2016
when three of the four sets went to prolonged
points.
The Canadians won that one 3-1 (26-24, 26-28,
25-19, 31-29) on May 24.
