Race Car Pilots and Beach Volley Players together in Chiapas
CHIAPAS, Mexico, May 13,
2011 – They are two very exciting sports but also very
different. Destiny, however, brought both together at least
during the trip to Chiapas.
Antonio Perez, the race car pilot, and the players participating
in the Beach Volleyball Circuit that starts on Friday at Puerto
Arista Beach were booked in the same flight to Tuxtla Gutierrez,
capital of Mexican State of Chiapas, so during the waiting time
to board at the airport some of the players took opportunity to
chat with the popular pilot from Guadalajara, brother of Sergio
Perez, a Formula One pilot for the Swiss Scuderia Sauber.
The differences of the physical characteristics between the
sportsmen were obvious, and were somehow motive of laughs for
some of the tall NORCECA volleyball players compared to the
short “Toño”, as the pilot is commonly called in NASCAR Mexico.
Another coincidence is that next Sunday, most likely at the same
time, pilots and beach volleyball players will be stepping to
the podium as the car race is scheduled to start at 15:00 just
when the finals of the fourth stage of the beach circuit are
expected to be in full action.
Among the participants who arrived on Wednesday were the duos
from Canada, United States, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago,
Cayman Islands, Nicaragua, Cuba, Costa Rica and México in both
genders.
Also the members of the NORCECA Control Committee, led by
Arnaldo Sanchez and the referee crew, in charge of supervising
the competition are already in the Mexican Southwest Coast for
the tournament starting on Friday 13. |
