Teams prepared to battle in Nicaragua
Managua, Nicaragua, May 17, 2012 – Three national teams that
combine experience and youth are ready to start the NORCECA 2014
Women’s World Championship First Round Pool H.
Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras will battle starting on Friday
for the best pool position and a more comfortable pairing in the
next phase.
The coaches all feel this will be a tough tournament with
respectable opponents.
“We are in a process with the senior team and most of our
players are U-23 but with good experience. We are here to
compete for a good place in the next round,” Guatemala’s Julio
Dominguez said.
“We have a few players from last year’s team that won the
Central American Juniors and 30 percent of veterans,” he added.
On the other hand, Honduras’ Felix Savio said his team “is very
young since we have eight junior players with the idea of
working on their growth for future competitions.”
Honduras just played in the Olympic Qualification Tournament in
Tijuana and according to Savio “this was motivation and taught
us that we need to work more with our national teams.”
Nicaragua’s Rene Quintana pointed out that “Guatemala always has
been a tough team and Honduras battles hard. It will be a
demanding tournament, but I feel we can finish in first place.
The support of the fans will be important.”
“We have players with experience and juniors who have gone
through a long process. I think it will be a better elimination
event for Nicaragua.” |
