Close men’s first day matches in Toluca

TOLUCA, Mexico, May 25 2012 — A record of 19 male couples started their participation at the VI Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit that began at the State of Mexico University Campus on Friday.

Roberto Rodriguez and Erick Haddock (Puerto Rico 1), faced fellow compatriots Pablo Guzman and Orlando Irizarry (Puerto Rico 2) in a three sets match, with a victory for Rodriguez and Haddock 2-1 (21-17, 19-21, 15-10).

Another long match was played between Simon Fecteau-Bontin and Michael Plantinga (Canada-1) against Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen (Mexico 1), who achieved the victory 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 19-17). Ontiveros replaced Aldo Miramontes who was unable to participate due to an injury.

In another battle between teams from the Caribbean, Saint Lucia’s Joseph Clercent and Julian Biscette played a surprising first set against Trinidad & Tobago’s Fabien Whitfield and Daniel Williams, who solved the match in the end to their favor 2-1 (24-26, 21-17, 15-11).

However, Santa Lucía, won its first match in the afternoon after defeating Rooper Espinoza and Diego Alpízar from Costa Rica 2-1 (17-21, 21-13, 15-11).

Despite the rain and cloudy weather, the atmosphere of this tournament captured the attention of families and students who arrived to the beach volleyball stadium and followed the matches on both courts.
