Cuba’s pair reach the semis in Toluca

 

TOLUCA, Mexico, May 26 2012 - Cuba, USA, Puerto Rico and Mexico reached the semifinals in the Men’s competition at the VI Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit.

 

Cuba’s Karell Piña and Sergio Gonzalez had a tremendous performance against Puerto Rico’s  Erick Haddock and Roberto Rodriguez by winning 2-0 (21-16, 21-10), and later defeated the USA’s David Smith and Skylar DelSol 2-0 (21-18, 21-14).

 

Smith and DelSol defeated Simon Fecteau-Boutin and Michael Plantinga from Canada-2, in three sets (21-15, 14-21, 16-14) in the quarterfinals.

 

Rodriguez and Haddock beat Benjamin Chow and Nicholas del Bianco of Canada-2 (21-19, 21-19), to clinch a berth in the semis. Previously they won against Dominicans Luis Adames and German Recio 2-1 (17-21, 22-20, 15-10).

 

Mexico-1 of Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen defeated Juan Revuelta and Ricardo Galindo, of Mexico-2, by score of 21-12, 21-17.

 

Later, the Mexico-1 duo defeated Canada’s 1 Chow and Del Bianco 2-0 (21-19, 21-11), to secure the berth in the semis. Cuba will face again Puerto Rico-1, while Mexico 1 will match USA.
