Mayor Castro officially opens Boca Chica Beach Tournament
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, October 5, 2018 – The fifth
stage of the 2018 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit was
officially inaugurated on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with the
ceremonial first serve made by the Mayor of Boca Chica, Mr.
Radhamés Castro.
Mayor Castro was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Maria de Leon de
Castro as well as Mrs. Mireya Luis, president of the organizing
committee and vice president of both NORCECA Confederation and
the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
Other members of the Control Committee present in the opening
ceremony were Mr. Daymian Stewart, technical director, Mr.
Salvador Bautista, referee delegate, and Dr. Julio Miñoso,
medical delegate.
The matches got underway at 8:00 a.m. and the schedule includes
night contests in the center court.
The women’s segment saw two early matches going to the three-set
limit:
Mexicans Martha Revuelta and Zaira Orellana winning over
Tolentino and Anthony of Curacao 2-1 (18-21, 21-13, 15-11) and
Shanicia Dyer and Brenda Allen of St Kitts & Nevis edged
Jamaica’s Kai Wright and Sashalee Wallen 2-1 (12-21, 21-17,
19-17).
In the men’s event it was a Central American battle won by
Nicaragua’s Ruben Mora and Dany Lopez over Costa Rica’s Richard
Smith and Bryan Monge 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 15-13).
The event runs until Sunday when the medal matches will be
disputed in both genders following the semifinals phase. |
