Mayra Garcia starts a coaching career in Baja

TIJUANA, Mexico, September 22, 2014.- Far away from the press, the cameras and the international tours, Former Mexican Olympic Volleyball Player, Mayra Garcia has a new priority in her life: to find the future stars in Baja California.

The two times World Championship and Olympic player finished with her voluntary exile to be back under the sun, and began to train on the sand again, but this time in a new role.

After her retirement as a professional player, two years ago,  she decided to give the next step after turning the page. On the new one she wants to write a new story by scouting and preparing the new generations in the medium and short term.

At her homeland, like she sais, she can share her knowledge and also can contribute with a good “clinic eye” to detect and instruct boys and girls with talent.

According to her ideas and experience, Mayra wants to get the best of the infrastructure conditions offered by the Baja California Sports and Physical Culture Institute.

“I thing there is a wide world of possibilities, in Baja California there are people with plenty of talent. We have a good biotype in general terms. We are still in our second week of work looking for some new talent,” She said.

“We were in Tecate, and now in Tijuana, and we will be looking and scouting throughout the five municipal areas in Baja.”

Mayra is still the same kind of person, nice and easy to interview. What she thinks is what she says. She also remembers all her milestones and wins during her career at the Norceca Beach Volleyball International Tour with Bibiana Candelas as her partner. She loves Mexican food and even has a restaurant.

Now at the distance, Mayra Garcia remembers that she also had a dream. Her dream as to become somebody great in sports and after long time of preparation and hard work, she could grant it.

One of her best moments was when she claimed the silver medal along with Candelas at the Pan American Games of Guadalajara 2011, playing fiercely against Brazilians Larissa and Juliana, the best of the world.

Now she enjoys her coaching career that is still beginning. She considers that Mexico must not have any problems in beach volleyball at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz 2014.

She wishes the best to her colleagues, as she faces the sun, now beside the court.
