McNamaras to semis in Porto
PORTO, Portugal, August 2, 2014 – Twins Megan and Nicole
McNamara of Canada continued their impressive run at the U19
Beach Volleyball World Championship advancing to the semifinal
round on Saturday.
The McNamaras, who rested on Friday when they celebrated their
17th birthday, won their matches in the second and
third round but not without going through a couple of big
battles under the brilliant blue skies.
They first subdued the duo of Stubbe and Wouters of Netherlands
21-19, 12-21, 15-12 in 48 minutes and then outlasted Susannah
Muno and Christian Jones of United States 21-17, 16-21, 15-12 in
42 minutes.
In the semifinals the Canadians will play against Russians
Rudykh and Makroguzova.
In the second round, Vanessa Cajigas and Lina Bernier of Puerto
Rico lost to Switzerland’s Rohrer/Gerson 21-13, 11-21, 15-5
while Muno/Jones defeated Lithuania’s Vaiciukynaite/AndriuKaytite
21-14, 21-9.
Mexico’s Stephanie Burnside and Yesenia Castro lost in the first
round 21-12, 21-11 to Germany’s Welsch/Bieneck.
In the men’s division, Americans Torey DeFalco and Louis Richard
lost in second round to Brazilians Arthur/George Wanderley
21-14, 19-21, 15-8 after a first round win over Polish Kmiecik/Macura
21-18, 13-21, 15-13.
The Puerto Ricans Daniel Rivera and Ricardo Padilla lost in
first round 22-20, 21-17 to the hands of Drapchynski and
Vauchkevich of Belorussia. |
