McNamaras twins and Burnside and Castro double winners in Porto
PORTO, Portugal, July 30, 2014 – Canada’s twins Megan and Nicole
McNamara made a noisy entrance to the sand courts of the FIVB
U19 Beach Volleyball World Championships winning two matches on
Wednesday the opening day of the competition.
The Canadian duo needed 55 minutes to overcome Brazilians Paula
Hoffman and Ana Patricia 21-17, 17-21, 15-7 but then breezed
past Mukantambara and Uwimbabazi of Rwanda 21-4, 21-15.
Mexicans Stephanie Burnside and Yesenia Castro also triumphed in
their two outings of day one in Porto.
Burnside/Castro defeated Allison Font and Pamela Zumbado of
Costa Rica 21-14, 21-11 and Israel’s twins Kristina and Katrina
Zilberman 21-11, 21-12. Font/Zumbado also succumbed against
Rohrer/Gerson of Switzerland 21-11, 21-13.
Puerto Ricans Valeria Cajigas and Lina Bernier won 21-15, 21-15
over Enija Bidzane and Alise Petersone of Latvia and lost 21-18,
21-16 to Daria Rudykh/Nadezda Makroguzova of Russia.
USA’s Susannah Muno/Christian Jones lost to Russians Daria
Mastikova and Elizaveta Novikova 22-11, 11-21, 17-15 in 55
minutes but had enough gas to come back with a 17-21, 21-18,
15-7 victory over Turkey’s Esra Cetin and Selin Yurtsever.
Skye Mondesir and Dala Noel of St Lucia were downed 21-12, 21-4
by Joy Stubbe and Julia Wouters of Netherlands and lost 21-8,
21-8 to Kristyna Adamcikova and Katerina Valkova of Czech
Republic. |
