Men’s Division of the Junior Pan American
Games begins with 6 undefeated pairs
ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay, August 18, 2025.- The start of the Men’s Beach
Volleyball tournament at the II Junior Pan American Games Asunción
2025, held at the Pynandí Stadium of the Paraguayan Olympic
Committee, left six undefeated pairs after the first day of
competition.
Of the six teams, the United States and El Salvador achieved two
victories. Venezuela, Canada, Brazil, and Costa Rica each recorded
one win, and on Tuesday, when the group stage concludes, these teams
will play two matches, while the Salvadorans and Americans will only
play one.
The Guardado brothers from El Salvador, Yoel and Christopher, in
Pool A, secured two victories by 2 sets to 0. In their first match,
they defeated Chile’s Martín Etcheberry and Fernando Quintero 21-15
and 22-20; later they faced and defeated Julian Bristol/Clerique
Ward of Saint Kitts and Nevis 21-13 and 21-8. Their last match will
be quite challenging as they face the home team, Juanangel
Gómez/Camilo Vargas, who hold a record of one win and one loss.
Meanwhile, in Pool B, the U.S. pair of Gage Basey and Thomas Hurst
defeated Argentina’s Marcos Ezequiel González and Fausto Inostroza
with scores of 21-16 and 21-11; at the end of the day, they won
21-19 and 21-19 over Cuba’s Damián Gómez/Eblis Veranes. The United
States will close pool play against José Bowen and Isaac Jiménez of
Ecuador, who have yet to earn a victory in the tournament.
The other four undefeated teams were:
Venezuela, with Enyenser Delgado and Juliangel Zaid, who defeated
Nicaragua’s Deyner López/Jesy Umaña 2-0 (21-10, 21-10). Canada, with
David Chaput and Cameron McGregor, also from Pool C, who defeated
Uruguay’s Mikhail Cuadrado/Luciano Fernández 2-0 (21-19, 21-15).
In Pool D, the defending champions Brazil (Isac Farias/José Jonathan
Heleno de Menezes) defeated the Dominicans Ramón De Jesús
Goris/Rolvin Maldonado 2-0 (21-13, 21-15). And Costa Rica (Julián
Araya/Jhostin Varela), who beat Bolivia’s David Durán/Julio Velarde
2-0 (21-16, 21-13) .
The tournament continues this Tuesday, August 19, with 12 matches,
starting with Pool C at 11:30 AM (local time), featuring Venezuela
vs. Uruguay and Canada vs. Nicaragua in a clash of undefeated teams. |
