AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, August 13, 2021 -
Mexican setter Karen Rivera fell one ace short
of tying the mark for a single match in the
history of the U-23 Women's Volleyball Pan
American Cup on Friday.
Rivera landed 8 aces for all her points in
Mexico's 3-0 victory over Puerto Rico to close
the preliminary phase of the qualifying
tournament for the Pan American Youth Games to
be held in Cali, Colombia from November 25 to
December 5 of this year.
The record of 9 aces in a match was set by
Peruvian Angela Leyva in a match against Costa
Rica on September 3, 2012 and later tied by
Argentina's Elina Rodríguez against Trinidad &
Tobago on September 22, 2016.
Rivera joined Cuban Regla Gracia in second place
as scorers of 8 aces in one game. Gracia had her
big day from the service line on September 8,
2014 against Costa Rica.
