LUCERNE, Switzerland, May 16, 2016 – Mexican Jose Luis Rubio,
whose strong blocking ruled at the net at the FIVB Beach
Volleyball U21 Men’s World Championship was voted the Most
Valuable Player of the competition won by Brazilians George
Souto Maior Wanderley and Arthur Diego Mariano Lanci.
It was a tight gold medal match against Josue Gaxiola and Rubio,
who are the first Mexican team to win a FIVB age-group medal.
The Brazilians won 2-0 (21-17, 22-20) in the final.
The Brazilians found their way around the big block with
well-placed shots to win the first set easily.
In the second set Mexico took a two-point lead and seemed to
have a chance to enforce a tiebreak, but in the end the
Brazilians levelled to claim the gold at their second match
point. |
