Mexicans Orellana and Revuelta to semifinals in Punta Cana
PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, September 14, 2019 –
Mexicans Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta advanced to the
semifinals of the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament,
the sixth stage of the 2019 NORCECA Circuit.
Orellana and Revuelta first defeated U.S. Virgin Islands
(Amber Bennett and Melanie Valenciana) 2-0 (21-11, 21-8) to
finish atop Pool A and then beat Curacao’s Angjeny Tolentino
and Leandra Savonije 2-0 (21-7, 21-10) in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals the Mexican duo will play against Canada’s
Molly McBain and Becky Tresham who downed Nicaragua’s Swan
Mendoza and Lolette Rodríguez 2-0 (21-17, 21-9). The
Canadians had lost their final pool match against
Guatemala’s Natalia Girón and Estefanía Bethancourt 2-1
(21-15, 18-21, 15-13).
The other semifinal features Geena Urango and Emily Hartong
of United States against Puerto Rico’s María González and
Bianca Torres.
Urango/Hartong defeated Mendoza/Rodriguez 2-0 (21-8, 21-8)
to finish 3-0 in pool play and then beat Trinidad & Tobago’s
Rheeza Grant and Malika Davidson in the quarterfinals 2-0
(21-9, 21-6).
Gonzalez/Torres prevailed against Girón/Bethancourt 2-0
(21-16, 21-18) in the quarterfinals.
