LA PAZ, Baja California Sur, May 13, 2022 –
Mexicans Juan Virgen and Miguel Sarabia became
the first men’s team qualified to the
quarterfinals of the La Paz Beach Volleyball
Tournament on Friday.
Playing a three-team Pool A, Virgen and Sarabia
defeated Austin Pipen and Daniel Samuelson of
U.S. Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-11, 21-19).
Austin/Samuelson had beaten David Vargas and
Gabriel Vargas of El Salvador 2-1 (15-21, 21-17,
15-9).
In Pool B, Canada’s Alex Russell and Jake
McNeill beat El Salvador Franklin Flores and
Armando Guatemala 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) and
compatriots Simon Fecteau-Boutin and Hugo
Rosso-Bonneau 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) to claim top
place.
Fecteau-Boutin/Rosso-Bonneau won their first
match of the day against Mexico’s Ricardo
Galindo and Isaias Aguirre 2-0 (21-11, 21-14)
while Flores/Guatemala closed the pool with a
2-1 (21-18, 13-21, 15-9) over Galindo/Aguirre.
In Pool C, Americans William Kolinske and Cory
Evans won their two contests. First they edged
Mexico’s Jorge Barajas and Gabriel Cruz 2-1
(21-17, 19-21, 20-18) and capped their day with
a 2-0 (21-13, 22-20) win over Puerto Rico’s
Kevin Rodriguez and Josué Rivera. In other pool
matches Penny and Shawn Seabrookes of St Kitts
and Nevis lost to Rodriguez/Rivera 2-0 (21-8,
21-8) and also to Barajas/Cruz 2-0 (21-13,
21-13).
In Pool D, Americans Thimothy Brewster and Logan
Webber won their two outings on Friday. They
first beat Bryce Mayer and Brian Kwasny of U.S.
Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-11, 21-15) and then
defeated Andy Blanco and Luis Garcia of
Guatemala 2-0 (21-14, 24-22).
In other matches in Pool D, Blanco/Garcia
defeated Costa Rica’s Criforth Lobo and Fabian
Guerra 2-0 (21-9, 21-14) while Lobo/Guerra beat
Mayer/Kwasny 2-0 (21-16, 21-11). |
