Lausanne, Switzerland, February 5, 2016 - Four teams will head
to Mexico City with dreams of securing the final place on offer
at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games after the Mexican
capital was chosen to host the FIVB World Men’s Olympic
Qualification Tournament from June 4-6.
Hosts Mexico, Algeria, Chile and Tunisia will play off in the
Gimnasio Olimpico Juan de la Barrera for the final place on
offer at Rio 2016.
Mexico finished third in the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier, which
was won by Cuba, the same result that Chile achieved in the
South America Qualifier that hosts Argentina won.
Tunisia and Algeria meanwhile finished second and third in the
African Qualifier, that was won by Egypt.
The teams will play each other once in a round-robin pool
format, with the team topping the pool after the six matches
booking their place at the Rio Olympics.
The Rio 2016 volleyball competition that will take place at the
Maracanazinho Arena is in line to be one of the most popular
sports at the Games. It has been leading the way in ticket sales
with the men’s and women’s finals already sold out.
