Mexico Subdues Costa Rica
COLIMA, Mexico, August 3, 2025 – Mexico defeated Costa Rica in
straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-17) on the opening day of the
XXII Women's Pan American Volleyball Cup being held in the city of
Colima in Mexico.
The home team dominated from the first whistle and never looked
back, dominating the Costa Rican squad in every aspect of the match.
Mexican Sofía Maldonado led her team offensively with 12 points,
followed by Grecia Castro, who added 10 points.
Ana Rojas and Tamara Espinosa had 10 and 7 points, respectively, for
Costa Rica.
Nicola Negro, Mexico coach: “I'm satisfied with the result, this is
the first match and it was a technically difficult game for us, we
started the sets slowly but were able to adapt to the game. We must
have a different attitude for the upcoming matches.”
José Briceño, Costa Rica coach: “Well, starting against the host is
always motivating and difficult at the same time. We have a very
diverse group with four players who are just starting out in the
senior division, and what we want in this tournament is for it to be
a developmental opportunity for them and for those who have been in
the senior division for a while to begin this level of competition
for the Central American Games and the Final 4 in Costa Rica.” |
