Mexico
beat Colombia
in straight sets
HAVANA,
Cuba, March 18, 2013.
- Mexico
stopped a reaction of
Colombia in the third
set and clamed a victory
in straight sets
(25-22, 25-20, 30-28) in Group
A of
the Women’s U-20 Volleyball Pan American Cup.
The
top scorer of the
game was the
Mexican Alejandra
Isiordia with 19,
followed by Lisbeth
Sainz with 14.
For Colombia,
Andrea Estrada
and Danna
Escobar, each
finished with 13 points.
"Mentally
we are well, calm,
I think it was a good
result because
we had a few days
without training," said
Isiordia, the captain
of Mexico.
It
turned out different
for Colombian
captain, Diana
Arrechea, who said they lost the focus
a bit. "I do not know
if it's the hot
weather here, Bogota
now is very cold,
but we did not
combine well for
the reception."
"It was
very important the
reception we had, very even, and
also the attack,"
said the Argentinean Estanislao
Vachino, coach of
Mexico. "We knew
how hard it is
Colombia, the third
in South America,
with whom we lost
2-3 last year."
The Brazilian
Mauro Marasciulo,
coach of the losers,
thinks his team still
has many things to
fix as the
full recovery of its opposite
player, who became
a mother just a few
months ago. "We must
continue to improve
because we came here
with only one month
of preparation." |
