Mexico beat Haiti in straight sets
FORT LAUDERDALE, United States, July 30, 2016. - Mexico beat
Haiti in straight sets 25-11, 25-14, 25-17 at the NORCECA
Women’s U-2 Continental Championship in Nova Southeastern
University of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Mexico’s serves took care of the actions with 11-0 advantage in
the first of two placing matches on Saturday. Haiti took Mexico
off guard with a four point advantage 10-6 in the third set.
Mexico also controlled the spiking with 39-20 margin, both teams
scored on 4 blocks. Mexico committed 18 unforced errors and
Haiti 21.
Opposite Kathya Garcia led Mexico registering 11 points all in
kills, joined by middle blocker Karina Flores with 10 points on
7 kills and 3 blocks. Haiti’s top scorer was Saradjine Jean with
10 points.
“We finished with the win despite our lack of concentration in
the third set, our communication and team effort helped us
recovered from our deficit. For tomorrow, I consider if we keep
communicating well and keep a good attitude, we can beat anyone”
said Mexico’s captain Kathya Garcia.
Mexico will play for fifth place against the winner between
Costa Rica and French St. Martin on the final day of the event.
Coach Mario Rodriguez of Mexico said “I am not satisfied because
I don’t see improvement, we are in dept. This event should bring
growth to our team and show much more than we did in the first
match. We hope to finish fifth”.
Solaida Pierre of Haiti said “in the beginning my teammate
Saradjine took control of the attack but she is suffering from
an injury and it was my responsibility to take over even if my
knee is not well. We had too many errors”.
Coach Jean Francois Osse of Haiti said “we need to compete more
to do better, we are finishing the tournament with many injured
players and we are disappointed of our many unforced errors, we
need to keep focused”. |
