Mexico beats Costa Rica in three sets
MONTERREY, México, March 20, 2017 –Mexico defeated Costa Rica in
straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-16.
Raymond Stephens finished as top scorer for Mexico with 15
points (and five aces), while Miguel Sarabia scored 13 (four
aces).
Mariano Salas closed with 6 units for Costa Rica after one hour
and eight minutes of game. Mexico served 12 aces against none by
Costa Rica and leaded the match 7-2 in blocks.
Captain of Costa Rica, Jose Andres Ortiz:
“We came here and tried to play a good match. We fought hard and
faced a very good and tough opponent, like Mexico.”
Captain of Mexico, Jesús Carlos Flores: “We
wanted to have a good start. Thus we prepared very well for this
tournament and got our first goal that was to win the first
match.”

“We fought against Mexico, it was difficult. However we still
have our goal in our match against Nicaragua to classify.”
