CALLAO, Peru, June 17, 2015 - Mexico blanked Costa Rica 3-0
(25-15, 25-20, 25-20) in match between winless teams in Pool A
of the XIV Women’s Voleyball Pan American Cup at Miguel Grau
Coliseum of Callao on Wednesday.
The Mexicans overwhelmed their opponents in attacks 42-25 and
clearly dominated in the aces charts 9-4. Lizbeth Sainz and
Alejandra Segura were the top scorers for Mexico with 14 and 13
points, respectively, while Gema Leon added 9 tallies. Marcela
Araya had 9 points for Costa Rica and Tatiana Sayles had 8 in
the loss.
Dulce Carranza, captain of Mexico: “We played with more calm in
this match and it allowed to get our rhythm to win the game
despite the efforts made by Costa Rica, a team still competitive
even with the changes they have had.”
Marcela Araya, captain of Costa Rica: “Despite the losses I am
glad with the effort of our team. We played close sets but could
not finish. We need more experiences like this one to keep
improving.”
Jorge Azair, coach of Mexico: “The victory earned us the right
to continue looking for the qualification to the Grand Prix.
Playing with a clear goal will be useful. I want to congratulate
the girls who played with calm and determination.”
Braulio Godinez, coach of Costa Rica: “When we were able to play
our game we stayed along with Mexico which is a stronger team.
We have not won a set against Mexico in four years, so playing
closely with them is a motivation to continue working.” |
