MEXICO CITY, Mexico, May 21, 2016. - Mexico made their debut at
home with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-22) victory over Honduras at
the XI Men’s Pan American Cup being held at Olympic Gymnasium
Juan de la Barrera.

joined by Samuel Cordova and Ivan Marquez with 8 points apiece.
For Honduras, Luis Salgado scored 8 points and Frank Alley 7.
Captain Pedro Rangel, of the home team said “Mexico has competed
every year at the Pan American Cup, it’s a very important
tournament for us and we’ve been improving the past months. It’s
important to have won the first match because we’re more
confident for our next opponent, our attitude is always set on
winning against whoever is on the other side, I believe we can
do things better and we hope to win this tournament”.
Luis Salgado of Honduras indicated “unfortunately we improved up
to the third set. We had little preparation, but still we played
at a good level. Our reception lacked efficiency. Our attitude
got better as the match developed. Mexico is well prepared,
their game level is good and you can tell their aiming on
winning the Cup, we are proud to have opened the tournament with
them”.
Jorge Azair, Mexican coach said that the most positive aspect of
today was attitude “the team was focused, aggressive and they
played with confidence. One of our weapons is our serves and we
were able to dominate it well. We also performed in control of
the other skills. We must improve our counterattack; we should
be more effective and play offensively. The guys get motivated
playing at home; we are moving one step at a time and know we
have to focus on Colombia”.
Marvin Ulloa, coach of Honduras said “this is the first time
playing Pan American Cup, last year we played the NORCECA
championship and we want to perform better. It’s difficult for
us to train, until coming here I was able to reunite the twelve
players. We didn’t play badly and I hope today’s errors can be
improved, mostly in reception”. |
