Mexico defeat USA and qualifies to Semifinals at Pan Am Cup
MEXICO CITY, Mexico, August 21, 2013.- México defeated the
United States in five sets (21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-22, 17-15)
and qualified to the semifinals as first place of Pool B at VIII
Men’s Pan American Cup.
Taylor Sander scored 23 for the Americans, while Joseph Sunder
finished with 20. Daniel McDonnell scored 14 and William Price
10.
Jesús Valdez registered 21 points for México, followed by Jorge
Quiñones with 14. Tomas Aguilera tallied 12 and Daniel Vargas
11.
“It was a very fun and amazing match, I can’t say we lost.
Mexico defeated us”, said United States coach Shawn Patchell.
“We have improved step by step. We worked on reception. We
havent got anything yet, but it is a small but great step,” said
Mexican coach Sergio Hernandez.
“We faced a very hostile crowd. There are some things to improve
but I have one hundred percent faith in my teammates,” American
captain Ryan Ammerman stated.
“It was a great victory for us. We had faced each other many
times and those matches had been very tough, thanks to our fans
for supporting us,” mentioned Jorge Quiñones.
The series between Mexico and USA is 3-1 still in favor of the
Americans at the Pan Am Cup. For Sergio Hernández this was his
second victory against an American team as part of the technical
staff. More than a month ago, He was the second assistant of the
U19 Unit that defeated USA México at the Age Group World
Championship in Mexicali, Mexico. |
