Mexico open with a victory at the Pan Am Cup
MEXICO CITY, Mexico, August 19, 2013 - Mexico opened the VIII
Men’s Pan American Volleyball Cup with a victory over Trinidad
and Tobago 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19).
Tomas Aguilera was the leading scorer for the winners with a
total of 14 points while Jesus Valdes registered 8 for Mexico.
On the Trinidadian side, captain Nolan Tash and Simon Blake
scored 5 each.
“We tried to play with more intensity, but Mexico was very
consistent with their service, congratulations to Mexican coach
for his first victory with the senior team,” said Trinidadian
coach Gideon Dickson.
“It is good to start with a victory for us, we are working with
a new generation of players and we are happy for that, but now
we have to prepare for our next match,” Mexico’s coach Sergio
Hernandez stated.
For Jorge Quiñones, the fans support was very important: “We
feel great for winning and also because the people enjoyed it,
and we started with the right foot.” |
