Mexico outplays Australia in Group 3
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, July 7, 2017 – Rachel Rourke’s 28 points
for Australia were in vain on Friday as Mexico rallied from a
first-set loss to overcome their opponents 3-1 (22-25, 25-22,
25-18, 25-23) in a tight Group 3 match in Mexico.
Libeth Sainz packed in two aces, four blocks and 13 kills for
Mexico and she was supported by Andrea Rangel and Dulce Carranza
who had 14 points apiece.
Also in Aguascalientes, Hungary made a winning debut against
Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-16) at Poliforum
Cultural y Deportivo Universitario Morelos on Friday.
Szakmary led Hungary in attacks
as she scored 12 points of her 13 points from the flank, while
Sinead Jack top scored for Trinidad and Tobago with nine points.
In Chiclayo, Peru, Angela Leyva rose to the occasion when they
hosted Puerto Rico at Coliseo Cerrado de Chiclayo on Friday, to
post a 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21) win in Group 2
competition.
Leyva was held by the Puerto
Rican defenders to score only three points in the first set, but
got an igniting push in the second set to finish with 23 points.
Stephanie Enright and Karina Ocasio scored 14 points apiece for
Puerto Rico.
In Neuquen, Argentina, Canada’s Alexa Gray scored 18 points to
lead her team to a convincing 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20) victory
over Argentina in Pool B2 of the FIVB World Grand Prix on
Friday.
Gray was supported by Jennifer Cross and Sarah Chase who scored
11 points each. Lucia Fresco was the only Argentine player to
get into double figures with 10 points. |
