Mexico achieved an
important victory
over Dominican
Republic
in four sets
(19-25,
25-21, 25-21, 25-15)
in Pool
A of
the Women's U-20
Pan American
Cup on Tuesday.
The Dominicans dominated
in the first set
but failed
serves
at key moments,
while
the
Mexican
caused
cracks in
their reception
which allowed the comeback.
The
Mexican
Alejandra
Isiordia
led with
27 points and
Lisbeth
Sainz
and
Patricia
Valle
contributed
16 and
11 respectively.
Brayelin
Martinez
had 20
for the losers
and
Pamela
Soriano
had 15.
Soriano,
the
Dominican
captain,
was unhappy with
the performance
but
only managed
to say: “We could
have done better.”
Isiordia,
the captain of
Mexico,
said the
Dominican
is
a tough team,
"but
we thought it was
not impossible to
defeat those who
already
have beaten
us
several times,
so we play like
we know
and we are
happy with
this victory."
The Brazilian
Wagner
Pacheco,
coach
of
the Dominicans,
congratulated
the opponent
players and coach. "Mexico played
like
a champion team,
we made
many
mistakes,
but the tournament
goes on."
Meanwhile
the Argentinean
Estanislao
Vachino,
the
coach of Mexico,
praised
the strength of
the opponents. "We
have shared a lot
in
training and in
games, and
really
their
faults allowed my
team to be loose and get the
victory." |
