GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, May 26, 2022.- Mexico
beat Dominican Republic in straight sets 3-0
(25-22, 25-16, 25-17) qualifying to the 2023
FIVB World Championship and the Boys’ U19 Pan
American Cup semifinals at Guatemala City.
Mexico earns the third ticket of four available
in the competition for NORCECA teams; the U.S.
and Puerto Rico qualified in the preliminary
round winning their respective pools.
Mexico moves into the tournament’s semifinals
and Dominican Republic will play for positions
5/8.
Dominican Republic pressed hard in the first set
recovering from a 6 point deficit (14-20) but
still Mexico came out on top and stronger the
following sets.
Mexico’s solid attacking line controlled the
Dominican Republic with a 36-22 advantage, while
the Caribbean led 8-2 in blocks and 3-2 in
serves. Mexico handed out 22 points on errors
and Dominican Republic allowed 35.
Outside hitter Ines Antonio Vargas topped Mexico
with 9 points, followed by outside hitter Victor
Miranda with 8 points and opposite hitter Julio
Serrano with 6 points.
Dominican Franklyn De Jesus Reyes scored a
match-high of 12 points; outside hitter Willian
Paez and middle blocker Johenndry Rivera
contributed with 6 and 5 points respectively.

final result, we will play strong in our next
games, but we reached our main goal. My boys’
hard work on the court was crucial; despite them
being nervous in the beginning”.
