CORDOBA, Mexico, October 6, 2015 - Mexico beat Costa Rica to
keep their undefeated streak at the Norceca Men’s Continental
Championship.
Nestor Orellana topped with 13 points and six blocks. Guerson
Acosta also recorded six blocking points in the 3-0 win over the
Central American team. Scores were 25-21, 25-18, and 25-19.
Captain Jorge Barajas also contributed with 9 points for Mexico,
while Richard Smith Hall finished with 10 for the Costa Rican
squad that showed a good serving strategy and even finished 3-1
in this department duel, with 2 aces by Julio Alvarez.
“Congratulations to Mexico, this was a tough match for us. We
battled and fought hard in the first and second set.
Unfortunately we could not make it but felt we were so close,”
said Costa Rican captain Javier Alvarez.
“Costa Rica went up in the second set, but we could get into
rhythm. I see a more united a more joint team, despite we made
some mistakes in reception, but I think we are almost 75 percent
of our capacity,” Jorge Barajas, captain of Mexico remarked.
"There are some details that we still have to work, like my
captain said. We are like 80, maybe 75 percent. Costa Rica
attacked us a lot, so we tried to block against one of his best
men (Richard Smith). We struggled in the second set but we could
succeed. We now expect a good game against Cuba," said Roberto
Vilches, coach of Mexico.
“We had a good game, I think we started well and had a good duel
in the net as we tried to attack and worked hard receiving the
ball. We failed some services. Mexico is a team used to this
kind of competition while we are trying to grow up. Our big
match will be against Trinidad and Tobago,” Cesar Salas coach,
or Costa Rica mentioned. |
