MEXICO CITY, Mexico, June 3, 2016- Hosts Mexico and Chile shined
with straight set victories on opening day of the Men’s World
Olympic Qualification Tournament at Gimnasio Olimpico Juan de la
Barrera in Mexico City.
The home team opened the World Olympic Qualifier also in
straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21) over Algeria with 14-9
advantage in blocking.
Mexico had Carlos Guerra and Daniel Vargas as their best weapons
scoring 16 and 15 points, respectively. Soufiane Hosni was
Algeria’s best scorer with 10 points.
Chile opened the tournament with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-21) win
over Tunisia. Chile’s victory was led by the performance of
Vicente Parraguirre scoring 14 points. Dusan Bonacic and Tomas
Parraguirre each scored 13 points all in attacks.
The second day features matches between losers and winners,
which promises to be thrilling. Tunisia will face their
continental opponents Algeria in the first match, followed by
Mexico facing Chile. |
