MORELIA, Mexico, October 1, 2015. - Mexico defeated Costa Rica
3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-13) to play for fifth place of the NORCECA
Women’s Continental Championship at Bicentenario Auditorium of
Morelia, Michoacan.
Mexico held a 28-20 margin in spikes, 6-2 in blocks and 6-3 in
serves. Mexico took advantage of Costa Rica’s faults, scoring 35
points on their opponents’ errors.
Opposite Dulce Carranza led Mexico’s offensive with 10 points,
Outside Hitter Lizbeth Sainz contributed with 9 points and
Outside Hitter Andrea Rangel chipped in with 7 points. Costa
Rica’s Opposite Mijal Hines led all scorers with 12 points and
Outside Hitter Evelyn Sibaja scored 7 points.
“It was important to give our younger members of the team an
opportunity to perform today” said captian Dulce Carranza. “We
knew it was important to win if we wanted to play for fifth
place; for us this is a new chapter and yesterday’s loss is a
learning experience” she added.
Irene Fonseca of Costa Rica said “Mexico was determined to not
let us play. We started off strong every set but we weren’t able
to keep consistency as well as take advantage that Mexico used
their less experienced players”.
Coach Jorge Azair of Mexico said “every match is of benefit for
us, today we gave our younger players time on court and that is
a win. I was worried, my team is tired and everyone has mixed
feelings affected from yesterday’s loss, it was hard to start”.
Coach Braulio Godinez of Costa Rica indicated “we tried to make
things complicated for Mexico, but they exceed us in technique,
they are a step ahead of us. Hopefully for tomorrow we will face
a team that has similar conditions as ours and do better, we’ll
fight for the win”. |
