Mexico tops Pool G of Consolation Round with 3 wins
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, July 18, 2019 – Mexico will play for the
9 to 12 positions of the U20 Women’s Volleyball World
Championship after winning Pool G with a 3-0 win-loss record.
The Mexicans defeated Serbia 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18) in
a match between undefeated teams on Thursday. Melanie Parra led
Mexico with 21 points followed by Uxue Guereca with 17.
In Pool H, Argentina defeated Cuba 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 18-25,
25-19) finishing with a 3-0 record and will play for the 9-to-12
positions. Cuba at 0-3 will compete for the 13-to-16 places.
Martina Delucchi and Sol Salinas Candelas led Argentina with 15
and 14 points, respectively, while Cuban Ailama Cese had a
match-high 24 points in the loss.
Also in Pool H, Peru overcame Dominican Republic 3-1 (18-25,
25-23, 25-19, 25-22) and will play for the 9-12 places.
Aixa Vigil and Kiara Montes each contributed 14 points to the
Peruvian success. Madelaine Guillen had 20 for the Dominicans
with Natalia Martinez next with 19.
In Pool F, Turkey (3-0) handed United States a third consecutive
loss 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 32-30) leaving the Americans relegated
to the competition for the 5 to 8 positions.
Yaprak Erkek and Derya Cebecioglu led Turkey with 21 and 18
points, respectively. Skylar Field and Jenna Weenas were the top
Americans with 15 and 14. |
