wins first match at U19 Championship
BURNABY, Canada, May 12, 2026: Mexico is off to a good start in
Group A action at the NORCECA U19 Boys’ Continental Championship,
held at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada
Today the North Americans beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-14)
in both team’s opening match.
Mexico held the advantage in all skills, except for making more
errors (23-14). It was 46-21 in attack points, 9-7 in blocks, and
6-1 in ace serves in favor of Team Mexico.
Mexico’s Francisco Sebastian Merino Romero topped all scoring with
22 points (19 attack points, 2 blocks and an ace).
Mexico Head Coach Jose Eduardo Millan Lanz enjoyed his team’s first
test at this event: “I am very happy with the team’s performance. I
think that for the first match, it went quite well to shake off the
nerves, and we hope to keep improving day by day in this event.” |
