Mexico
wins the U19 boys' bronze medal
BURNABY, Canada. May 17, 2026: Mexico beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25-8,
25-12, 25-15) today at the U19 NORCECA Boys’ Continental Volleyball
Championship at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, British
Columbia.
Mexico wins bronze and Costa Rica finishes fourth overall. The top
four teams from this tournament qualified for the U19 World
Championships, to be held in 2027.
It
was a dominant performance by the Mexican squad – leading in attack
points 45-15, blocks 8-1 and aces 8-2. Errors were slightly in
favor of Costa Rica 14-15.
Mexico’s Head Coach Jose Eduardo Millan Lanz said after the game:
“It was a tough match. We are very happy to have won the bronze
medal at this continental championship and to have secured a spot at
the 2027 World Championship. We have one year of work ahead to
arrive in the best possible form for the World Championship. We
congratulate Costa Rica; they were a strong opponent.”
Mexican outside hitter Francisco Sebastian Merino Romero led scoring
with 23 points (15 attack points, 1 block, and 7 aces.)
