Mexico with 2-0 in consolation round
LEON, Mexico, July 17, 2019 – Host Mexico improved to a 2-0
record in the round for the 9 to 16 positions of the U20 Women’s
FIVB World Championship after a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15)
victory over Egypt (0-2) on Wednesday.
Uxue Guereca (14), Melanie Parra (13) and Grecia Castro (12)
carried most of the load of the Mexican offense.
Also in Leon, in Pool H, Dominican Republic (1-1) lost 3-0
(25-19, 25-16, 25-21) to Argentina (2-0).
Sol Candela (17), Angeles Ligurria (15) and Bianca Farriol (11)
led the Argentinean attack. Natalia Martinez, Madeline Guillén
and Geraldine Gonzalez each had 12 points for the Dominican
side.
In the other match of Pool H, Peru (2-0) scored a 3-0 (27-25,
25-13, 25-20) over Cuba (0-2). Kiara and Flavia Montes led Peru
with 13 and 10 points, respectively, while Giuilia Montalbetti
also had 10 for the winners. Cuban Ailama Cesé had match-high 16
points.
In Pool F in Aguascalientes for the 1 to 9 positions, Poland
(1-1) defeated United States (0-2) by scores of 3-0 (25-18,
25-20, 25-23). |
