Mexico, Nicaragua, Canada and USA Women Start Strong with Two Wins Each at NORCECA Beach Tour Finals 

JUAN DOLIO, Dominican Republic, December 12, 2025. – The women’s teams from Mexico, Nicaragua, Canada and the United States opened the NORCECA Beach Tour Finals in commanding fashion on Friday at Juan Dolio Beach, each securing two victories to set the pace in their respective pools. 

In Pool C, Mexico’s Susana Torres/Atenas Gutiérrez and Nicaragua’s Socorro López/Lolette Rodríguez showcased their dominance with perfect starts. Torres and Gutiérrez opened the day with a convincing 2-0 (21-3, 21-2) win over Karine François/Carole Herve of Martinique, followed by another straight-set victory, 2-0 (21-6, 21-14), against El Salvador’s Daniela Tovar/Keiry Guzmán. López and Rodríguez were equally impressive, defeating Tovar/Guzmán 2-0 (21-14, 21-13) before closing their day with a strong 2-0 (21-13, 21-5) victory over Martinique. 

In Pool D, Canada’s Marie-Alex Bélanger/Lea Monkhouse and USA’s Geena Urango/Megan Rice also finished the opening day undefeated. Bélanger and Monkhouse dominated Belize’s Nelissa Ramírez/Clara Sabal 2-0 (21-13, 21-6) and cruised past Grenada’s Kashanice Mitchell/Xenia Collins 2-0 (21-5, 21-2). Urango and Rice delivered similarly overwhelming performances, overpowering Grenada 2-0 (21-1, 21-5) before defeating Belize 2-0 (21-13, 21-7) to cap their successful day. 

Other action included a strong start for Dominicans Yari Cleto and Crismil Paniagua in Pool A, securing a 2-0 (21-12, 21-12) victory over Panama’s Krisleen González/Ingrid Lezcano. The Panamanian duo rebounded later in the day, edging Guatemala’s Paola Alvarado/Danna Aguilar in a hard-fought three-setter, 2-1 (19-21, 21-17, 20-18). 

In Pool B, Puerto Rico’s María González and Allanis Navas rolled to a 2-0 (21-6, 21-15) win over St. Kitts & Nevis’ Shanicia Dyer/Shajunee Gumbs. Venezuela’s Sara López/Darlin Rodríguez followed with a commanding 2-0 (21-6, 21-5) victory over the same St. Kitts & Nevis duo. 

Pool play will conclude on Saturday morning. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the afternoon quarterfinals, featuring crossover matchups between Pools A and B, and Pools C and D, along with placement matches.
