Minister of Sports welcomes U18 Dominican Team

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 30, 2017 – The Dominican Republic minister of sports Danilo Diaz offered a welcoming lunch to the members of the U18 national volleyball team that won a silver medal at the age-group world championship held in Rosario and Santa Fe, Argentina.

The players and technical staff were accompanied to the premises of the ministry of sports by the president of the Dominican Volleyball Federation Ramon Garcia and Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of the female program.

Diaz congratulated the players and encouraged them to continue studying to keep the hard training to represent the country with pride in foreign soil.

He said the silver medal attained by the volleyball team proves the future of the sport is guaranteed with the work of many federations with their teams in the low categories.

“You are the trademark of the Dominican Republic, you are the real ambassadors as each one of you represent our country with dignity and pride at international competitions,” he said.

Natalia Martinez, the captain of the team, presented Diaz with a medal and praised the support the sport has received since he took possession of the position one year ago.

“We are going to keep working hard to achieve more triumphs for our country,” said Martinez and Madeline Guillen, the top scorer of the tournament.

Marte Hoffiz thanked Diaz for the support and expressed his gratitude to the Dominican government and its president Danilo Medina for his solidarity.

“Gratitude is a quality and we are pleased with the support received from the minister Diaz for the age-group teams and the senior team with air tickets and per diem well in advance of the competitions.

He announced the construction of a Training Centre exclusive for volleyball at the Olympic Center in Santo Domingo saying that details on that project will be offered soon.
