Mireya Luis presents her biography in Costa Rica

 

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, October 28, 2017. - Three time Olympic Champion Mireya Luis held a book reading of her biography “Entre Cielo y Tierra” at the Sports Hall of Fame of Costa Rica on the occasion of the XXIV NORCECA Congress.

 

Costa Rica’s National Federation invited Mireya Luis to present her biography to all volleyball fans and members of their national teams who enjoyed Mireya’s motivating words and stories about her initiation in volleyball. Also attending the event was Cuban ambassador in Costa Rica, Mr. Danilo Sanchez Vasquez.

 

Cuba’s former Minister of Sports Humberto Rodriguez introduced Mireya Luis to the assistants, who spoke about her humble ascent with her parents immigrating to Cuba from Haiti and how she began to play volleyball at 15 years old and climbing up to winning three Olympic titles and two World Championship titles.

 

In her first words, Mireya was brought to tears speaking about her mother “her positive influence in my life allowed me to become an elite athlete but most important, a proud and strong woman that stands in front of you today. She encouraged me to go on fulfill my volleyball dreams just nine days after giving birth to my daughter”.

 

She also shared her many volleyball stories and said “I hope to inspire future generations and now in my new phase in life, I am determined to keep working for my beloved volleyball. Nothing is impossible, go work hard for your dreams”.

 

Mireya answered several questions by volleyball players, local media and followers of a Facebook-live transmission. She also enjoyed signing her book and national team jerseys, as well as taking photos with the assistants.

 

Following the presentation, Mireya also appeared in a sports program of a local TV station to reach a larger segment.

 

Attendants at the XXVI NORCECA Congress also had the opportunity to have an issue of Mireya’s book “Entre Cielo y Tierra” as she dedicated a moment to distribute her biography after the morning session of day one of activities.
